A breath-taking Grade II Listed Building, Stockport Town Hall is affectionately known as ‘The Wedding Cake’, thanks to its white façade and striking tiered clock tower.
Within this grand building located in the heart of Stockport, Greater Manchester, you’ll find stunning Renaissance architecture, magnificent period features and an array of incredible rooms and spaces licensed for wedding ceremonies, all offering something unique.
From short, intimate ceremonies to full-day wedding celebrations, from two to 500 guests, I always say that Stockport Town Hall has something to appeal to all couples, thanks to its range of rooms to accommodate any budget.
The venue is divided into two distinct sides, left and right, with weddings at the Register Office, Robert Hyde Room and Sir A. Brumwell Thomas Room managed directly by Stockport Council, and those within The Ballroom, Council Chambers, Committee Suite and on the Marble Staircase taken care of by Stockport Events.
For ceremonies and receptions organised by the Events team, they give you dedicated wedding coordinators to guide you through the process and answer any questions, so you have someone on hand to help all the way.
I have had the pleasure of photographing many wedding ceremonies and receptions at Stockport Town Hall in my trademark natural, relaxed style, and have experience across all the rooms. It’s a venue I really enjoy because it makes such a spectacular backdrop for truly unforgettable wedding photos.
One of the most popular Stockport Town Hall wedding photography packages is my ceremony only package. As I’m local to Stockport, I can offer a competitive Monday to Thursday rate with up to two hours of coverage.
Coverage begins half an hour before the ceremony, capturing the arrival of the guests and bridal party at the venue. I’ll also be there to catch those special moments as you say your vows (room choice permitting), and then afterwards to grab a few group photos, with the Town Hall providing a memorable background. Otherwise, we can amble over to nearby Alexandra Park to create some beautiful natural portraits of the two of you.
The package is also available at the weekend for £350 depending on availability
Now let’s take you on a grand tour of all the places you can get married at Stockport Town Hall. And a grand tour it is!
The Henry Bell Room is the statutory register office at Stockport Town Hall. It’s a tastefully decorated room, nicely furnished and perfect for intimate wedding ceremonies. If it’s just the two of you and your two witnesses, this is your ideal venue. However, if you’re looking to have your wedding photographer in the ceremony with you, or anyone else for that matter, you’ll need to choose a larger room, as they literally only allow four people in here. The Henry Bell Room is available on Tuesdays only.
The Robert Hyde room is a lovely wedding ceremony room and makes the ideal setting for small parties of up to 12 people. It’s well-lit and neutrally decorated, and available every day except Sunday.
Named after the English architect Sir Alfred Brumwell Thomas FRIBA who was an advocate of the Baroque Revival and responsible for the design of Stockport Town Hall in the early 1900s, this room can accommodate up to 55 people. It’s tastefully furnished and decorated, with a spectacular chandelier taking centre stage, after the bride of course. Available every day except Sunday.
This is by far one of my most favourite and popular wedding locations at Stockport Town Hall and makes an absolutely amazing backdrop for wedding photography. The breath-taking staircase creates an impressive ceremony space, and you get to choose whether you say ‘I do’ at the bottom or on the middle platform of the steps. It’s also a fantastic area for a drinks reception. If your guest list tops no more than 70, and you are eager to tie the knot somewhere truly memorable, this could be your perfect location. Available seven days a week.
Perfect for larger weddings, the Council Chamber can accommodate up to 150 guests. Its intricately carved leather upholstered wood panelling and seating is a redeeming feature, and the double aisle paves the way for the wedding party to make a dramatic entrance. I particularly love the high-domed, magnificently decorated ceiling and wonderful stained glass windows which lend themselves to the most incredible wedding photography at Stockport Town Hall. This room is available every day of the week.
The Committee Suite presents three individual rooms which can either be hired separately, or all together as part of a Stockport Town Hall wedding package. So if you wish, you can hold your ceremony here, together with your wedding breakfast and / or your evening reception. The period oak panelled rooms provide an elegant backdrop for your wedding photography, as do the stained glass windows, domed ceilings and ornate chandeliers. Ceremonies can accommodate up to 100 people, and for wedding breakfasts and / or evening receptions, you can invite up to 108 guests. Available seven days a week.
The word ‘spectacular’ doesn’t come close enough to describing this room, with its vast arched ceiling, dazzling chandeliers and opulent stained glass windows. Occupying a third of Stockport Town Hall, the Edwardian Ballroom is a sizeable space that can be used for wedding breakfasts and receptions of between 100 and 500 guests. The venue has become incredibly known over the years as one of the most desirable locations for multicultural weddings and receptions. If you’re looking for somewhere truly impressive for your wedding reception, I believe you’re sure to find it here. Available seven days a week.
I find that many couples love to have a few intimate portrait shots taken along the A6 just outside the venue. Bustling it may be, but it makes for a natural and slightly gritty backdrop.
Just a short walk from Stockport Town Hall is Alexandra Park where I’ll often take a bride and groom for some couple shots against a tree-lined background. The park’s lake always proves to be a pretty wedding photography feature too.
Stockport Town Hall is an incredibly appealing and versatile wedding venue in Greater Manchester. From the most intimate ceremonies to the biggest gatherings, it has everything you need to create the most amazing lifelong memories.
The staff at the venue can’t do enough to help, and as for your wedding photographs, you couldn’t choose anything more beautiful.
