West Tower is a stunning exclusive wedding venue located in the picturesque town of Ormskirk, in the heart of the North West. As a wedding photographer, I have had the pleasure of visiting West Tower several times before, and hopefully many more times to come.
Upon arrival at West Tower, wedding guests are greeted by its impressive exterior with its grand architecture and alluring facade. This beautifully preserved 19th-century mansion gives a sense of romance and sophistication, making it the perfect setting for a wedding day to remember.
One of the main reasons couples choose West Tower as their wedding venue is its exclusivity. This hidden gem offers complete privacy and seclusion, allowing couples to enjoy their special day without any distractions. With its expansive grounds and breathtaking views, West Tower provides the perfect backdrop for an outdoor ceremony or a romantic sunset photoshoot.
The bridal suite at West Tower is equally impressive, providing the perfect haven for the bride and her bridal party to prepare and get ready for the big day.
West Tower also offers the convenience of having both indoor and outdoor ceremony options. Whether couples prefer an intimate indoor ceremony or an outdoor celebration with their family and friends, this award-winning wedding venue has it all.
The dedicated wedding coordinator ensures that every detail of the wedding day is taken care of, allowing couples to relax and enjoy their special day. From the initial planning stages to the execution of the event, they work closely with the couple to bring their vision to life. West Tower takes pride in providing exceptional service and making each wedding day a truly unforgettable experience.
To start the day off, the bride and her party can enjoy their preparations in the Cristal suite. This suite is a large, bright space, with floor to ceiling windows that fill the room with natural light- building a perfect space for makeup and hair. This is also ideal for myself as the wedding photographer, as it means I don’t have to spend time perfecting any camera settings, and can instead spend all my time capturing your special moments. Overlooking the gardens of this gorgeous venue, this location will create the perfect relaxed setting you need for your wedding morning preparations. The Cristal suite also features a stylish and comfortable seating area, ideal for the party to relax, calm any nerves, and take in the beautiful landscaped gardens. Also featured in this suite are full length mirrors, ideal for essential morning of prep. Another luxury that can be enjoyed in booking this room is the fridge stocked full of prosecco and orange juice, as well as the complete kitchen and huge fridge freezer, so you and your party can enjoy food or a glass of fizz at your leisure.

Across the grounds, the lodge is available to be used by the grooms party, or even guests. Fitted out with classic decor, the lodge is a bright, open space, ideal for you to get suited up and ready for your day. The lodge has plenty of lounge and relaxation space- not to mention unlimited use of the TV and playstation. Here you can either choose to bring your own drinks and make use of the ice machine, or preorder from the venue and enjoy a prepared service when you arrive.

Made to be a complete romantic hideaway for the newlyweds, this opulent room boasts some stunning features, for example a king size four- poster bed, spacious walk in shower and original fireplace. This luxurious facility is free to use from noon on the day of your wedding, making it a great place to add the final touches in getting ready for your ceremony. There is plenty of space in this bridal suite- room to hang your wedding dress, and bridesmaid dresses or suits, and of course for also for your bridal party to join you for final preparations. This room also produces a picturesque setting for any photos before your ceremony, and given the ample space- it makes it exceedingly easy for me to catch unposed precious moments.

Inside, West Tower boasts a stunning ballroom, which can accommodate both intimate gatherings and larger wedding parties. The space is beautifully decorated, with elegant chandeliers and luxurious furnishings and the wooden floor was recently renovated in the Ballroom.
The room has a partition wall at the end which later reveals the rest of the ballroom for the wedding breakfast.

Another great feature of West Tower is the wedding breakfast provided. The venue works hard to ensure you have an enjoyable, stress-free experience, providing opportunities for tasting and selecting your chosen menu, as well as having their events team ready to go and keep everything under control. The wedding breakfast is an intimate and special time for the newlyweds, and I always enjoy photographing the first memories made as a married couple.

The Cellar Bar is an hidden gem itself. Located one floor below, the space is perfect for the drinks reception and has a direct access to the patio area, making it easier for your guests to spread out between indoor and outdoor. It’s also great to use later as a quiet space!

One of the many reasons I love photographing weddings at West Tower is the stunning panoramic view towards the west, which often provides the perfect setting for sunset portraits. Set in 10 acres of amazing countryside, this venue provides the perfect location for you and your guests to have a lovely time, and makes for some truly stunning photographs.

Venue type: Exclusive-use country house mansion
Location: Aughton, Ormskirk, Lancashire
Number of guests: Up to 145 for the ceremony and wedding breakfast, 200+ for the evening reception
A perfect wedding venue for… Couples who want the full country house experience — privacy, grand surroundings, and a venue that photographs brilliantly from the Cristal Suite in the morning through to fireworks in the evening.
I’ve photographed weddings at West Tower across every season — summer garden parties, autumn fireworks nights, and everything in between. You can browse some of them in the Latest Weddings section on this page, or on the blog. A few couples have chosen to keep their photos private, so the galleries don’t tell the full story — but West Tower is a venue I know well and return to regularly.
The gardens face west, which means on a clear evening you get a proper sunset backdrop — the kind you can’t fake or plan for elsewhere. I’ll keep an eye on the time throughout the day, and about half an hour before sunset I’ll take you out for ten minutes. No big production — we’ll walk, you’ll forget I’m there, and the light does the rest. Some of the best frames I’ve taken at West Tower have come from those ten minutes.
The All Day package (from £1,500) covers you from preparations through to the first dance, which takes in all the key moments at West Tower — the Cristal Suite in the morning, the ceremony in the Ballroom, the drinks reception in the Cellar Bar, and the wedding breakfast. If you’re planning a big evening with a band — which West Tower does very well — it’s worth looking at the All Day + Evening package (£1,700) to carry the coverage through. You can see the full breakdown on my prices page.
