I’m Thomas, a documentary wedding photographer based in Stockport. North Wales is well within my travel range and it’s an area I’ve been shooting weddings in for a number of years.

My approach is relaxed and unobtrusive throughout. I’m there to photograph your wedding as it actually happens, not to direct it. North Wales attracts couples who’ve put real thought into their setting, and that tends to make for a good day to photograph.

North Wales draws couples from across the North West and beyond who want something a bit different from a local venue. The scenery, the coastline, the castles, and the distinctive character of the area all contribute to a wedding day that feels like its own thing rather than a version of something closer to home.

Many North Wales weddings have a destination feel to them. Guests travel, often stay nearby, and make a weekend of it. That changes the atmosphere in a way that suits documentary photography well.

North Wales venues I’ve worked at

Château Rhianfa on Anglesey is the North Wales venue I know best. It’s a remarkable setting, a French-style château on the Menai Strait, and one that photographs well in all conditions. I’ve covered two weddings there and you can see both in the gallery below.

Yes, and North Wales lends itself well to that kind of day. Couples often invite guests who travel from further afield, stay nearby, and make a weekend of it. That tends to change the atmosphere. People are more relaxed, more present, and less focused on the schedule. It suits my documentary approach well, and my experience with destination weddings means I’m comfortable with the logistics of a day where everyone has made a real effort to be there.
