Destination Wedding Photographer

I’m Thomas, a documentary wedding photographer based in Stockport. I travel for the right wedding, and destination weddings are something I genuinely enjoy. A different setting, different light, and couples who’ve usually put a lot of thought into choosing somewhere special.

My approach is the same wherever I’m shooting. Relaxed, unobtrusive, and focused on capturing what actually happens rather than directing it. The only difference with a destination wedding is that everyone has made a real effort to be there, which tends to change the atmosphere in a good way.

Why a destination wedding?

Couples who choose a destination wedding tend to have a clear picture of what they want. A specific country, a specific setting, a specific feeling. The guest list is usually smaller and more considered. People travel, often stay nearby, and the whole thing takes on a different pace to a local wedding.

From a photography perspective, destination weddings are some of the most interesting days to cover. New locations, different architecture and light, and a relaxed energy that comes from everyone being somewhere they made a real effort to reach.

Where I’ve worked

France is the country I’ve worked in most, and not just because it’s where I’m from. I’ve photographed weddings at Château Zuthove and Le Moulin de Chazotte, and I have a wedding booked at Château de Courcelles Roy in 2027. Being a French native speaker makes a real practical difference at French weddings. I can speak directly with venue staff, the officiant, and guests without anything getting lost in translation.

Do you speak French?

Yes. It’s my first language. I’m bilingual and equally comfortable in French and English. For French couples, or couples getting married in France, that makes a real practical difference. No language barrier, no miscommunication on the day, and I can speak directly with venue staff, the officiant, and guests without a translator. I also get by well in Spanish, which has come in useful more than once.

How does pricing work for destination weddings in Europe?

For European destination weddings, I charge a set fee on top of my standard package to cover my travel and accommodation. That fee is agreed upfront and covers everything I need to get there and back. I sort out my own transport and accommodation, which keeps things simple and means there are no surprises for either of us.
