For Georgia and Bobby, choosing a wedding venue wasn’t about finding the most convenient location. It was about returning to a place deeply woven into their relationship. Although they live in the Northwest and will host a Liverpool celebration for those who couldn’t make the journey, there was never any question where they’d actually tie the knot: Newport, Pembrokeshire, a coastal town that’s been Georgia’s second home since childhood.

Newport isn’t just a pretty seaside location – it’s where Georgia’s family has holidayed every year since she was four years old. When Bobby entered the picture, this special place became part of their shared lives too. Their decision to marry at Cat Rock Café speaks volumes about what mattered most to them: authenticity over convenience and meaningful backdrops over grand ballrooms.
The café’s relaxed coastal vibe perfectly matched their vision. No stiff formalities, just genuine moments (and amazing views!) with their nearest and dearest in a place that already held so many memories. As Georgia put it: “As soon as I realized Cat Rock was licensed for civil ceremonies, there was nowhere else for me.” That instant certainty is what happens when you find a venue that just feels right.

The ceremony set the tone – literally. Georgia’s oversized dress knocked over aisle lanterns (to everyone’s amusement), and the registrar’s reading of their relationship story had guests chuckling. Later, Bobby’s song choice for their first dance – “Georgia On My Mind” – proved surprisingly perfect despite initial scepticism.

Now, let’s talk about the food – because as a self-confessed foodie (and Come Dine With Me winner, no less!), I know a spectacular menu when I taste one. Georgia and Bobby were kind enough to arrange an extra meal for me, and from the first bite, I understood why their guests couldn’t stop raving about it.
They threw out the tired wedding menu rulebook and served up something truly special:
- Starter: Locally caught crab meat on toast. So fresh you could almost taste the sea
air - Main: The café’s signature slow-cooked beef loaded fries (the kind of dish that makes you wish wedding portions came in bucket sizes)
- Dessert: So good I had to discreetly unbutton my trousers, and I wasn’t alone!

Portrait Time: Simple, Scenic and Stress-Free
One of my favourite parts of any wedding is stealing the couple away for some relaxed portraits during the drinks reception. At Georgia and Bobby’s wedding, this couldn’t have been easier – we simply took a short walk down the hill to the cliff top, where Newport Beach stretched out before us. No elaborate setups, no lengthy posing sessions – just 10-15 minutes of the two of them enjoying each other’s company with that breathtaking coastal backdrop.
This is how I prefer to work – keeping portrait sessions simple, natural and, most importantly, brief. There’s no need to disappear for hours when you’ve got guests to enjoy and celebrations to be part of. A quick walk around the venue (in this case, with one of the best views in Pembrokeshire) is all it takes to capture those quiet, romantic moments between the newlyweds. The results? Beautiful, unforced images full of genuine emotion – and a couple who could quickly return to their guests without missing a beat of their special day.
Personal Touches in a Familiar Setting
What made this wedding special wasn’t extravagant details, but thoughtful nods to their story:
- Handwritten names on pebbles served as place cards and keepsakes
- Welsh welcome signs nodded to the local culture they’ve come to love
- Repurposed invitations became wedding bingo cards (with prosecco prizes)
Even Georgia’s dress surprised her – sleek satin with pockets instead of the lacy number she’d imagined. “As soon as I put it on I felt so glamorous I knew it was the one,” she recalled. That willingness to trust their instincts defined every decision.
As Georgia said: “We were our happiest and most relaxed on the day.” That’s what happens when you choose a venue that’s not just a backdrop, but part of your story.
