Some wedding venues just click. For Carys and Jordan, Shrigley Hall wasn’t just a pretty backdrop, it was where they’d escaped for spa weekends, switched off their phones, and simply enjoyed being together. So when it came to picking a venue, let’s just say the decision was easier than choosing what to watch on Netflix (and with far fewer arguments).
A Full Circle Moment (With Better Hair This Time)
This wedding felt extra special for me. Years ago, when my photography skills were fresh out of the box (and my camera probably still had the price tag on), I’d photographed Carys and her cousins—who were now her bridesmaids. Nothing says “trust” like someone letting you photograph their wedding after seeing your early work.
The morning prep was a masterclass in efficiency:
- Bridal HQ: Carys and her squad took over one of Shrigley’s triple rooms, where Michelle from The Bridal Lab (a makeup artist I see so often at Knowsley Hall we might as well be coworkers) worked her magic.
- Groom’s Den: Jordan and his crew held court in a far-flung bedroom, presumably debating important topics like “which pocket square fold looks most manly.”
Thankfully, Shrigley’s layout meant I could bounce between both rooms like a caffeinated wedding ninja.

The Ceremony: Emotions & A Kiss Fail
The ceremony was heartfelt, if slightly chaotic. Jordan was so emotional he couldn’t look at Carys or her dad initially. Then came the iconic moment: their first married kiss, where Jordan instinctively stepped back. The registrar’s reassurance that yes, kissing his new wife was allowed got the biggest laugh of the day.

Peacocks, Portraits & Golf Cart Joyrides
The drinks reception featured Shrigley’s resident peacocks strutting about like they owned the place (which, let’s be honest, they probably do). We snuck off for relaxed portraits—just a stroll around the golf course pond, keeping it quick to avoid stray golf balls.
Then came sunset. Wedding coordinator Amon, clearly recognising my desperation for golden hour shots, arrived with a golf cart like a hero in a rom-com. Jordan even let me drive it back, which was either trust or poor judgement on his part. (Note to self: add “golf cart handling” to my skills list.)

Personal Touches (And Crisps)
These two personalised their day brilliantly:
- A homemade welcome sign with photos spanning their relationship – because nothing says romance like showing guests your questionable haircuts from 2014
- Tables named after cities they’d visited, complete with guidebooks (perfect for guests planning their post-wedding escape)
- Piper’s crisps on every table—a snack-tastic nod to their new surname
- Macmillan bee pins honouring loved ones (proving favours can be meaningful without being another dust-gatherer)
Carys’s dress had its own backstory. After maintaining the same Pinterest board for a decade, she found her dream gown at the first shop. What happened when she tried it on? Waterworks.
The Party: Where Aerosmith Met Embarrassing Dance Moves
Their first dance to I Don’t Want To Miss a Thing (Jordan’s long-held choice, inspired by Tyson Fury’s rendition) quickly turned into a group dance, possibly because guests realised neither bride nor groom should be left unsupervised on a dance floor. The live band kept energy high, proving that good music trumps sore feet every time.

All in all, it was a day that perfectly reflected Carys and Jordan: heartfelt, full of laughter, and surrounded by their favourite people (peacocks included).
